Why breakfast is so important for health and weight loss

It has been said for a long time that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. For many of us however we may not understand the reason this is so and many of us will not realise that if we eat a good healthy breakfast it can actually help and make it easier to lose weight.

Medical research has shown that if you do not eat breakfast then you put your health at risk and are actually increasing the chances of putting on weight to the extent of becoming obese, developing diabetes and potentially even having a heart attack.

Breakfast is the most important meal and will fuel your energy resources for the whole of your day. Ensure that you fill up on a good nutritious meal which can include lots of fruit and whole grain cereals. Studies taken place in America showed high results of people seeing large health benefits if they started off their day by eating whole grain cereals.

If you eat a good nutritious breakfast then by mid morning you will still be full up and less likely to be tempted to snack on unhealthy options such as chips, cakes and biscuits. If you start the day full up you will not be tempted to over eat later on in the day to compensate. Skipping meals will result in a becoming ravenous and eating a big lunch and dinner or ordering a large unhealthy take away. Start as you mean to go on right from the beginning of the day!

Eating first thing in a morning will also regulate your blood sugar levels and help control your appetite and stores of energy, resulting in you functioning better and feeling less sluggish. If you start the day with more energy then there is more chance of being physically active which we all know also helps you to stay fit and contributes to losing weight.

According to an American study undertaken by Harvard students, people were a third less likely to end up obese if they ate breakfast compared to those who did not. In addition to being less likely to put on weight, people who ate breakfast were less likely to suffer from other health issues such as blood sugar complications which may result in a person developing diabetes or developing high cholesterol which can result in heart disease.

Whilst it is important to have breakfast in order to stay healthy and lose weight it is also important to be careful in what you decide to eat for breakfast. A large fried breakfast will be laden with fat and calories so clearly this should be avoided but you can still fill up on good healthy nutritious options such as eggs, toast, cereals and fruit. If you choose the right food then you can increase your intake of vitamins. Many cereals are fortified with vitamins and minerals which a person would not find easy to consume in the remaining two meals of the day in their diet. Therefore it is extremely important to eat a good, healthy, nutritious breakfast in order to stay healthy and help you lose weight.
